Magazine analysis

This blog will be analysing three music magazine adverts. the first one is Gwen Stefani love angel music baby magazine cover.
              Gwen Stefani

The typography of Gwen Stefani , the body copy and the action line  is written in a gold font connoting wealth. This can be further conveyed through the use of Mis-en-scene in the main image of a crown and a stick by Gwen Stefani ,  which  interlinks which the song 'Rich girl' and suggest that Gwen Stefani is a princess.

Furthermore in the main image of a medium shot of Gwen Stefani, we can establish that Gwen Stefani hair is blonde short and curly aging highlight her sophistication and how classy Gwen Stefani is as an artist. Gwen Stefani is also wearing red lipstick connoting lust, therefore this could be a way of her teasing men (age 20-30) to buy her album ( secondary audience) in an innocent way, which can be signified by her white clothing.

The background of the music magazine advert seems to be distorted . This could be implying that this is Gwen Stefani dream which the audience can step into.

The information on the body copy highlights that there is another artist featuring on Gwen Stefani album implying that this album is going to be value for money , thus persuading the audience more to buy the album. The Pack-shot in the left hand corner makes the album recognisable when the target audience of females age 20-35 (primary audience) and males age 20-30 (secondary audience) goes to purchase the album in store.Through this album Gwen Stefani can  borden her audience as if the other artist that she is collaborating with also has a big target audience, they will also go and purchase the album because they like the artist  , thus creating synergy increasing profit and sales of the album for both of the artist.

In the action line the audience can establish the logo of Target a massive department store in America , therefore this makes the album be seen as a well respected album, thus persuading the target audience to buy the album more.

 Kings Of Leon

The second music advert that I am going to analyse is Kings of Leon.

The typography of the Band title 'Kings Of Leon' is written in white ,this could be imitating a bright  light that is hovering over the main image, of a close up shot of  part of each of the band members  face split into quarters and merged with an eagle. The eagle could signify freedom due to being able to fly away therefore this could be inferring to the audience ( Males and females age 17-30),  that when they by this album they will feel relaxed due to having a sense of freedom.

The main image also makes the band be perceived as mysterious  which can be further highlighted by the name of the album 'Only by the night in the body copy. Which has connotations of the unknown and hidden , thus daring potential buyers to come out of their comfort zone and purchase an album as the album is different.

The typography of the bands name can be juxtaposed by the phrase 'out now' in the body copy,  which is written in red instantly alerting the audience that their album is out which they should rush to get as the colour red has connotations of rushing. The colour red also has connotations of fire interlinking with their song 'sex on fire.'

At the action line highlights the  play.com logo which provides the target audience with the information on where online to purchase Kings Of Leon album. Furthermore this also helps increase capital for play.com as when the audience purchase the album they may also purchase another product.

Plan B
The third magazine music advert  that will be analysing is Plan B.

The typography of artist name Plan B is written in a bold striking red font on a black background, thus signifying the power plan B has as an artist. However this can be contrasted by the title of the album written in white signifying innocence. Furthermore through my own research I found out that Plan B's album the defamation of strickland banks is based on a soul singer who is british and discovers love through songs that are sweet and bitter.

Innocence can be further inferred by Plan B's white suit in the focal point in addition to holding a microphone highlighting how sophisticated he is. Therefore this could be imply that he is trying to subvert the typical view of rappers and stand out, potentially making more people purchase his album as the album is seen as diverse.

In order to persuade the target audience of males and females age 16-27 to by the album more, it has also been highlighted the reviews this album has received from prestigious magazines such as Q. Therefore the target audience will see Plan B's album as value for money leading to the target audience purchasing the album. This can be further conveyed in the red writing 'the multi-platinum album of the year' therefore this makes people who haven't purchased the album feel left out as they are missing out on a great experience, the phrase 'of the year' suggest that there is no better album to buy.

In my opinion I think the target audience for  this album is males and females age 16-27, however more towards males due to the fact they are seen to listen to more of rap music in comparison to females who can be seen to listen more of  pop music. In the corner of  the advert there is pack shot of Plan B's album making the album  more recognisable for the audience when the target audience go to purchase the album in stores.
