Blog reflection questions -week four
Week four
What have you been doing this week? What key concept have you been focusing on?
During this week I did research into beachcombing which required me to look at a vast majority of music videos from different music genres. One of the music genres I looked at was R&B for this I looked at John Legends music video All of me . During this video I was fascinated by the use of the black and white effect in through out the video. I thought that this could be incorporated into our music video in order to show the past relationship the protagonist had with her ex boyfriend .
Another music genre I looked at was Pop for this I looked at Pharrel Williams Happy music video. During this music video I enjoyed the scenes where people were dancing at different locations. Therefore in order to keep the audience engaged whist they are watching our music video I feel that it is important to film at different locations. This idea was inspired by Pharrel Williams Happy music video.

Week three
What have you been doing this week? What key concept have you been focusing on?
During this week I decided to do further independent research following on from my lesson on representation theories where I learnt about theorist such as Laura Mulvey, who theorised the term the 'male gaze theory' which states that women are viewed as sexualised objects. I thought this could be implemented in our music video by the protagonist who will be a female age 19 wearing a red dress signifying romance .As she wants to look appealing to other males due to the fact she just broken up with her ex, which is referred to in the lyrics 'My drunken Friday night.'
Furthermore through my own research i found out about Valdmir Props theory on character roles which states that males play the protagonist as oppose to women play the victim. I thought that this idea could be also implemented in our music video by the protagonist also wearing a black dress, signifying sadness thus conforming to the theory and further highligthing how emotional the protagonist feels.

Focus group for Music video pitch analysis
Prior to presenting my pitch for the music video Rock Bottom by Debbie Aramide I conducted a focus group consisting of people of a similar age of my target audience that I decided to aim my music video at, in order to gain a deep understand of what key elements I should included.
After playing Dannie ,Sarah and Jack the song the first question I asked them was what did they think of the song? Whilst Dannie and Jack responded with positive comments about the song, as Dannie said the tempo of the song was good and Jack said he would not mind listening to the song a couple of times again. Sarah on the other hand was not to keen about the song.
The next question that I asked them was what clothes do you think the main character should be wearing? I felt that this was an important question to ask, due to the fact that clothes in my opinion are an integral part within music videos as a result of the mood they help create, for example dark `clothes create a melancholy mood. Dannie responded to the question by stating that the character should not be wearing dark clothing as that would create the feeling that she is still depressed which would contrast with the lyrics , therefore the character should be wearing bright coloured clothing. Jack seemed to agree with Dannie stating that the character shouldn't be wearing dark clothing and should be wearing clothes that match the upbeat tempo of the song.On the other hand Sarah said that since this was a sad song the character should be wearing Dark clothing that is fashionable that the target audience could wear.
follow on from this I then asked them is that do you think this music video should be a performance or narrative music , as I also felt this question would be important to ask in order to find out what style would be more appeal to my target audience as it would be time consuming working on creating an interpretive music video if that style does not appeal to them. Dannie and Sarah responded to this question by stating that the music video should be a narrative. With Dannie stating that she was taking about how he was her life and then she lost him. Jack on the other hand stated that the music video should be a performance video as he feels that young people enjoy performance videos more.
The last question I asked was what type of scenes should incorporate into my music video, this question benefited me as it allowed me to gain more knowledge on the scenes that should be in my music video, as I was stuck for ideas. Dannie stated that I could included some flashbacks whilst jack said that I could have a scene where something is being ripped.
Overall I have found this Focus group that I conducted beneficial, Dannie also highlighted the fact that he thinks this song will appeal to both genders. Furthermore through incorporating casual clothing and flashbacks this will help ensure that my target audience is met.
